About the Artwork
This is an original, one-of-a-kind soft pastel painting, created on on UArt board.
My work is deeply inspired by the paintings and aesthetics of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I am drawn to the elegance, quiet beauty, and timeless atmosphere of that period, and these qualities are something I strive to bring into my own paintings. Above all, I want my work to evoke a sense of calm, warmth, and quiet pleasure — to offer the viewer a moment of stillness and an opportunity to simply enjoy the beauty of the scene.
The Pastels I Use
I paint primarily with two exceptional French pastel brands: Girault, established in 1780, and Henri Roché, whose heritage dates back to 1720. Both have a remarkable place in the history of pastel painting. Their pastels were used by celebrated artists, including Edgar Degas, and belong to the same artistic tradition as pastel masterpieces now held in major museums.
I choose these pastels for their extraordinary range of subtle, nuanced colors and the beautiful quality of the pigment they lay down. Color is at the heart of my painting, and I take great care in selecting the materials that allow me to capture its finest variations. Nearly every pastel painting I create is made predominantly with Girault and Henri Roché, complemented occasionally by other professional pastels.
Framing & Care
Soft pastel paintings should be framed under glass, with a suitable spacer or mat to keep the artwork from touching the glass. When properly framed and cared for, a pastel painting can be enjoyed for generations.
